Celebrations begin for 80th Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention
Bangor Worldwide opened its 80th annual Convention celebrating and promoting world mission with an event in the Presbyterian Assembly Buildings, Belfast on Saturday 20th August.
Speaking afterwards, Committee Chairman Tom Clarke said, “We were greatly encouraged by the amount of people who attended our opening celebration. Conrad Mbewe made his inaugural appearance at Bangor Worldwide and we are pleased to welcome back George Verwer who has been a frequent visitor to the Convention since the 1970s.
“It was lovely that the Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down Councillor Bill Keery could also join us for our special event. On behalf of the Committee, I would like to express our gratitude to Ards and North Down Council for their continued support to help promote Bangor Worldwide as far as we can.”
Thirty events will be held during a nine day period with speakers travelling from China, Zambia, Albania, Papua New Guinea and Malawi updating attendees on the work of the various mission agencies they represent. Around 70 agencies are represented in the global village which allowed people to receive insights and pick up literature on an array of countries across the world.
Events will run through to Saturday 26th August, mostly held in Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church.
