December 2022 Prayer Update
DECEMBER 2022
Welcome to our last update of 2022. Thank you for all your support in prayer this year, for your presence at the summer convention and for your financial giving to God’s mission across the globe. To God be the Glory!
PEACE ON EARTH
As we reflect this time of year on the Prince of Peace coming into our world, here is a story from the International Mission to Jewish People and a street outreach project which asked passersby: ‘What is Peace?’. Read the article in full over on the website.
YOUNG ADULTS EVENTS
A key part of Bangor Worldwide’s vision is to ignite a desire in young people to be COMPELLED to go and serve God abroad. A series of evenings for young adults are being planned to stimulate this mindset. If you are a young adult or lead a group of young adults or know a young adult leader, then please pass on the dates - Sunday 4th December, 8th January and 3rd February.
Each evening begins at 8pm with tea and treats and then at 8.30pm, those gathered (18-30s) will explore the Word, enjoy Worship together and look at opportunities to Witness. All events will be held in Hamilton Road Baptist Church.
REV DR PAUL BAILIE
We were saddened to hear of the sudden death of Paul who was a good friend of the convention in his role as CEO of Mission Africa. Dr Bailie was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland at Greenwell Street Presbyterian Church, Newtownards in 1995 where he was an assistant to the minister until 1998, when he left for Kenya. There he served PCI directly as an overseas missionary teaching in the Presbyterian College of East Africa.
He returned to Northern Ireland in 2005 and began working for the charity Mission Africa, one of the oldest interdenominational evangelical missions in the UK. His work as Chief Executive brought him regularly to Nigeria, Kenya and other nations on the continent. In this capacity he also held the position of being ‘a Recognised Minister’ in PCI.
At Union Theological College in Belfast, Dr Bailie taught various aspects of the Old Testament and will be remembered by many of his students, past and present, along with those he taught at Belfast Bible College.
POINTS FOR PRAYER
Finance
Committee
(5th December)
Please pray for this committee as it meets to finalise the financial report for the main committee meeting. Pray that they will be guided in any decisions which have to be made and that all will be encouraged by the level of giving this year.
Committee
Meeting
(7th December)
The main committee meets on the 7th December and in addition to finance, there are a range of items on the agenda including arrangements for the Launch in May and finalising the panel of speakers for the convention in August. As always, we will be dependent on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us through the many decisions which have to be made, so please pray to this end.
20s &
30s
Following the well-attended meeting arranged for this group in November, it has been decided to run a further three. Please pray for the first of these, which is to be held on the 4th December. This is a key age group and our prayer is that they will respond to the challenges which speakers at these meetings bring.
Rev. Paul
Bailie
Please pray for Paul’s wife Anne, his colleagues in Mission Africa and his wider family as they mourn at this difficult time. Thank God for Paul’s passion for others across the world, particularly in Africa, to know and love Jesus.
