Facing a Task Unfinished
I want to let you know about a new version of a great old hymn, and to tell you about the chance to be part of a Global Hymn Sing in a couple of weeks’ time.
The original version of Facing a Task Unfinished was written by Frank Houghton who was at one time Director of the China Inland Mission – known now as OMF International. The words are based on the Great Commission – a powerful call to engage with the challenge of sharing the Good News of Jesus with the whole world.
Our friends at Gettymusic have developed a new version – based on the well–known tune – but with a new chorus that adds fresh energy to the hymn. Hopefully this will introduce this great hymn to a new generation and inspire more people to serve in global mission. Additionally, all royalties from the new version will be supporting the ongoing work of OMF International.
So here are two things you can do:
1) Teach your congregation the song so it can become part of the sung language of your church.
2) Participate in the global hymn–sing on the 21st of February, in partnership with OMF International, by signing up at GettyMusic.com/FacingaTask and joining with churches on every continent and in multiple languages who have already committed to being part of this. Gettymusic are giving away fully orchestrated sheet music for free to all participating churches.
