May 2023 Prayer Update
This month we look forward to our official launch and getting to share more about our exciting plans for this summer’s convention with you all.
LAUNCH
DR. SINCLAIR FERGUSON
We can’t wait to release the full programme for the upcoming convention in August and highlight speakers and special events. Our committee has been working hard behind the scenes to pull it all together. In order to reach themaximum number of people who might be interested in learning about our plans, we have a range of events and this year these have been extended to include a meeting for students. Everyone is welcome to join us in Hamilton Road Baptist Church on Wednesday 17th May at 7.45pm with guest speaker Dr Sinclair Ferguson.
EVENT
YOUNG ADULTS
We look forward to meeting again with our young adult supporters on Sunday 21st May in Hamilton Road Baptist Church at 8pm. There will be worship, stories, food and prayer. We always like to see new faces so spread the word!
REMEMBERING
GEORGE VERWER
The committee of Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention were deeply saddened to learn of the death on Friday 14th April of George Verwer. With his passing we have lost not only one of our regular contributors but also a strong supporter, advocate and friend. Since he was first invited to speak at the convention in 1974, George has been a regular visitor and we have many happy memories of his times with us. His last visit was in 2016 when he was the main speaker at our opening night in the Assembly Buildings, Belfast. As he travelled the world with OM, George spoke warmly of the Convention, as the opportunity arose, and often called it " theonly one of its type in Europe". We will always be grateful to God for theencouragement he brought us through his faithful servant, George.
POINTS FOR PRAYER
PUBLICITY
LAUNCH
Our spring publicity launch is second only to thesummer convention itself as our most significant activity. They will take place over 17th/18th May (DV) and include two morning brunches for ministers and pastors, an open evening meeting and a lunchtime student event. Our plea is that you would saturate all aspects of the Launch in prayer and would particularly highlight the following;
Our Speaker
Sinclair Ferguson is well known to many in Christian circles. He has graciously agreed to speak at each of the events associated with the Launch. Pray that he will be kept well and not find the schedule too demanding. Pray for him in his preparation as he seeks to address three different audience types.
Ministers Brunches
Give thanks for the very encouraging level of registrations for these meetings - well in excess of previous years. Pray that ministers / pastors will be challenged by what they hear and be open to a greater involvement in world mission
Student meeting
Pray that many will respond to the invitation and be open to what Dr Ferguson might say to them particularly.
Organisers
Pray for Keith, David, Colin and Jason from thecommittee, who have the principal responsibility for the detailed arrangements for the events. Give thanks for their willingness to get involved and pray that all will run smoothly for them with no last minute hiccups.
Outcome
Pray that the outcome of all the activity over these two days will be that many will be aware of what has been arranged for the Convention this year and plan to attend , perhaps for the first time. Also, that God would be glorified by all that takes place.
GEORGE VERWER'S
FAMILY
George is survived by his wife, Drena, their three children, Ben, Daniel and Christa; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pray for them as they continue to deal with their grief and may they know the peace and presence of the God of all compassion.
