Paul Liu

Representing: Biblica

Paul Liu was born in March 1974 in Hebei Province and later transferred to Tianjin. When he was 13 years old, his mom converted and became the first Christian in their family.

As a teenager, he laughed at her faith, nevertheless, the Bible became available in his family and he sometimes read it as a mythical storybook. There were no Christians in his school or among his friends.

After college, he worked in a hotel, as he majored in restaurant management. At that time he went to an English corner every Saturday to practice his English. He met a university physics lecturer, Professor Gu, who was a Christian and who invited him to join their small Christian group every Thursday to study God’s Word. Paul began to realize that religion deals with the ultimate question of life and meaning. Eventually he was baptized by professor Gu on Easter Day in 1998.

After conversion, Paul was so eager to know more about the Bible and Christian faith. He felt malnourished spiritually at the church he attended, and his mom was almost led astray by a cultic group. Seeing the importance of solid training in theology, he decided to study in seminary. He happened to know a missionary (who grew up in Manila) in Tianjin, who introduced him to the Biblical Seminary of the Philippines. Against his whole family’s objection, he obstinately resigned his job and went on his adventurous journey of faith in September 1998.

He and his wife Deborah have a one month old baby boy. They are located in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, where since May 2012, Paul serves as coordinator for CCB promotion and developing related Bible materials in China for Biblica.
