SAT–7 Wins Film Award
Two short films produced by SAT–7, A Dress Film and Braids, drew awards in two different film festivals, one in Egypt and one in Mauritania. Both films promote women’s rights and raise awareness of social challenges they face.
“In the light of SAT–7’s mission of defending the weak and being a voice to the voiceless, we produced these short films to boldly deliver a clear message to oppressed women to help them understand and defend their basic rights,” says Farid Samir, Executive Director of SAT–7 Egypt. Farid Samir is also the producer of both the winning short films A Dress (Fostan in Arabic) and Braids (Dafayer in Arabic).
Using these films are a mechanism to bring around important social change. Rita Elmounayer, Executive Director of Arabic Channels, said, ”I am very proud as this is not the first award that the team in Egypt has received, and I am sure it will not be the last. Congratulations to the team and to all in SAT–7 because it raises our reputation as a professionals in this important area of filmmaking. Also, congratulations to all of our viewers – because these two films provide good personal stories that many girls and woman can and will learn from.”
